Parenting Tips for Traveling with Your Baby

Traveling with your baby can pose challenges to parents. They can get fussy and difficult to deal with, resulting in a ruined vacation. However, with the right parenting strategies, you can hit the road smoother with your baby.

Keep them engaged. Bring books or toys with you in the car, at the shopping mall, on the airplane or wherever you may be. When babies are bored, they tend to act out, so you want to be armed and ready to keep them occupied. It’s even better if you offer up toys that are new, or that baby hasn’t played with in a while. Slowly reveal new things to play with over the course of your trip to keep baby engaged and interested.

Make sure that you bring water, snacks, formula, and bottles for your baby. When you are traveling by air, make sure to bottle-feed your baby during before take-off and landing to reduce ear pain. Don’t forget to bring items that make your baby comfortable such as his or her favorite pillow, blanket, or stuffed toy. For road trips, make sure to stop every two hours. Try to find a picnic area where your baby can enjoy.

For convenience, do not forget to bring a baby sling. This parenting technique is useful for both road trip and plane travel. You can also bring a stroller that is easy to fold.

With a little planning, you can get through the airport security bottleneck without issue. Remember that you can bring baby formula, pumped breast milk and juice through security, but in many countries, water and other liquids are limited. Plan to buy bottled water after you’ve passed through security. A baby sling can be especially helpful at this point. It leaves your hands free for maneuvering luggage and removing your shoes.
